The wall carvings of Khmer soldiers on each elephants... looks to me like a battle ground scene has been carved here and preserve for the existing generation

The front view of the elephant terrace. This long terrace at the heart of Angkor Thom, looking over the Royal Square, was the foundation for royal reception pavillions; the carvings of elephants along its walls give it its modern name.
The 350m long Terrace of Elephants was used as a giant viewing stand for public ceremonies and served as a base for the king's grand audience hall. As you stand here, try to imagine the pomp and grandeur of Khmer empire at its height, with infantry, cavalry,horse-drawn chariots and elephants parading across Central Sq in a colourful procession, pennants and standard aloft.
